Always use silicone or rubber spoons when you cook on nonstick cookware. Utensils made from wood or metal can scratch the coating on your pans, which reduces the non-stick properties and may cause the coating to peel or flake while you cook. Do not used coated cookware that has been damaged because ingesting it could be dangerous.

Find a dark, cool area in which to store herbs and spices. Exposure to excessive heat, humidity, or light will affect the flavor of dried seasoning. Ground herbs and spices can retain full flavor for about a year. It is possible for whole spices to remain flavorful for up to five years. Storing spices in glass containers with a tight-fitting lid will keep them best.

Cooling racks that stack on top of one another can be a handy thing to have in your kitchen. If you don't have one of these, a few batches of your favorite cookies might take up your entire counter. Instead, try stacking the cookies on racks. Place the racks one on top of the other, and you'll only take up a small corner in your kitchen. The use of more vertical space is effective in cooling your cookies, and it gives you much more space to tackle the rest of your baking.

Repair your pie crust! The dough of your pie crust can start to crack if you work it too hard. After putting a little cold water on the crack, repair it by gently rubbing the dough together using your index finger. If there is cracking on the top pie crust, use some milk on a brush and sprinkle with coarse grind sugar. When the pie is done baking, the top crust will be so beautifully glazed that cracks will be hidden.

Make good use of leftovers by throwing together a wok full of tasty fried rice. Rice that is cool and one day old usually works best, but fresh rice can still be used if the water level is dropped just a little so the rice is slightly drier. First, use a small amount of oil to fry the meat and vegetables. Next, add the rice to the mixture and use soy sauce, ginger and garlic according to your taste preferences.

When you need to store dry ingredients such as flour, or sugar in your kitchen, use airtight containers. You can protect your food from bugs and keep them fresher using an airtight container. These containers can be bought at just about any store.

Having a great meal is obvious as soon as you take that first bite of something truly delicious. If you think that this may take years to accomplish you are gravely mistaken. Anyone with a desire to cook can learn the basics and then improve on them. This article has hopefully prepared you to get in the kitchen and create some magic.
