Are automobiles growing to be passe? With an economic climate that is managing poorly and fuel prices constantly rising, many people are thinking they would rather own a bike. Quite a few are also ready to let go of their car and be content with public transportation. However, there are a few cars that are very efficient on fuel and these cars are hybrids. The thing is, many people don't even understand what hybrid car is.

The very first thing you must understand about hybrids is that they include two engines, not one. The initial one is a typical gasoline burning engine. The other is an electric engine. Hybrid autos combine the 2 types of motors to realize significantly better gas mileage. One unfavorable element of using an electric motor used to be needing to plug it in to recharge its batteries. Present technology has solved that problem by saving the energy the car wastes every time we break to slow down and using it to keep the batteries charged. When you are driving your automobile it will either be utilizing the electric motor, or the gas-powered engine, depending on different factors. One factor involved is the rate you're traveling. Furthermore, both motors may be called upon concurrently when extra power is required.

Because the electrical power produces no pollutants, not only is a hybrid cleaner to operate, but gets better mileage because when the car is using electric power, it is not using any gas. An example of this is a car that gets 50 miles to the gallon in comparison to one that gets 14 miles to the gallon less, not only will you save considerably in gasoline costs, but also eliminate a lot of carbon emissions. The hybrid car is the best choice for you, if you are concerned about the environment as well as hoping to save on the amount you spend on fuel. Yes, it may cost a little more ($5000, or so), but you will quickly regain that in fuel and maintenance savings.

The added purchase expense is most likely the main thing that keeps most people from even looking into a hybrid. However, when you add all the available tax breaks to the gasoline savings, owning and driving a hybrid becomes a far better choice. A lot of people have a concern that insurance costs will be more, and the same for maintenance costs. Although research has shown that this is not the case, as maintenance costs are not any higher for the hybrids. Since hybrid owners are not as likely to get into an accident, they are starting to get discount rates on their insurance.

Whether it's getting to be time for you to get a new car, do yourself a favor and at least check out a hybrid or two. Main point here: You'll spend less at the pump, enjoy a significant tax break, and be carrying out your share to clean up our environment. Carpe diem!
