While in many cases, curtain poles will be a fixture in any new home or apartment, there may come times in which a new homeowner will need to purchase them for their windows. Luckily, in many cases, curtain poles are usually found in places where curtains are also available, and they need not be the standard fare of just a metal or plastic pole.

What are Curtain Poles?

Curtain poles are the item in which to hang curtains, whether they are for window treatments or that of a shower or bath. They can range in size based on the window in which they will fit; this allows for all types of window shapes and sizes.

Curtain poles also come in different types of styles, so that a homeowner isn't regulated to that of the standard and sometimes boring metal poles; the choice is up to the homeowner. Sometimes, keeping the standard metal pole can still be used, however the homeowner wants visitors to concentrate on the actual curtains and not the pole itself.

In other cases, homeowners would like to match their curtains to that of their curtain poles. For this reason, they can be found in plastic, wood, and metal and can range from the mundane to that of the elaborate.

Where to Find Curtain Poles

Curtain poles are often found in department or home improvement stores, though smaller companies may also have them on sale. They can be purchased from a local retailer or that of an online company. In many cases, online retailers will have more intricate designs, though depending on the local store, homeowners may also find elegant and unique curtain poles in store.

Types of Designs

Designs for curtain poles can run the gambit of the traditional with a bit of style to that of the intricate with curves within the pole itself. The type of design that a homeowner uses is up to the homeowner; for instance, if the home is or will be decorated in a beige colouring or accented by the colouring of wood, getting wooden poles will combine with the harmony of the room and can be accented by curved ends or a curtain that will also enhance and accent the curtain pole.

Curtain poles can have rounded, square, or other types of ends that will usually show out of window and curtain themselves. This is the part that visitors and homeowners will likely see and one that is a very real consideration when thinking about the types of poles you would like to use for your home. It is usually a good idea to use the same types of curtain poles throughout the entire home.

It's also important to be aware at how much curtain poles are able to carry. While the amount should be standard fare, in order to maintain the shape and use of your poles, you should never put more weight on the curtain pole than necessary.
