Basically, handsets that have two Subscriber Information (SIM) cards are known as dual SIM phones. At first, there were dual SIM adapters that were made available which allowed people to use one of two SIM cards that were in their cell phone. However, recently manufacturers have been making cell phones that permit both numbers to be active simultaneously. These are called active dual SIM phones.

On the same cell phone, you can maintain both a personal number and a work number with this dual SIM function as opposed to carrying around two handsets. In addition, people who travel regularly between two countries can keep a second SIM for their destination country and save on the expensive roaming charges.

Salesmen dream about the dual SIM phone. The salesman can save a considerable amount of money by not having to pay roaming charges because he is using two different service providers. Also, the dual SIM phone is available to the common man because of its reduced cost, and the salesman is very happy with the ability to use two service providers at the same time.

The dual SIM phone has become so popular with young people that they can't live without it. The young people of today as well as older people find the ability of these cell phones to use two lines at the same time irresistible. The brand name versions of the dual SIM phones are only beginning to show up in the marketplace while the no name versions are already very popular. Another benefit of dual SIM phones is that there is no need to hold two separate handsets, although, handsets are becoming less expensive everyday as a result of the demand that is driving mass production.

The most popular brands including Motorola, Samsung, and Nokia are actually in a hurry trying to fill the vacuum has been created by the no name companies the marketplace demand far exceeding the supply. The no name companies now know the popularity of the dual SIM phones and are now ramping up the production of them in an effort to make up for delay and trying to outdo their competition by producing quality dual SIM phones that are less expensive.

Many of these manufactures of the big brand dual SIM phones are offering wireless Bluetooth, and a GPRS camera with audio. Considering that the sales of dual SIM phones have really started to boom, the future of these phone looks very bright. In an effort to seduce more customers, it is anticipated that some additional manufacturers will get on board and start offering many more advanced options.
